A major accident was averted at Kolkata international airport early this morning when a water tanker hit a Qatar Airways aircraft that was boarding passengers before take off for Doha.
“The passengers were safely evacuated. We have informed the Director General of Civil Aviation about the incident. Now it is up to them to conduct a probe,” said airport director Atul Dixit.
There were 103 passengers, according to the airport officials. Directorate General of Civil Aviation has started a probe into the incident, an official said.
“The movement of vehicles in the airport takes place through pre-determined routes and speed. One has to find out how the driver lost control of the vehicle,” said an officer, who did not want to be identified.
All the passengers were taken to a hotel in Kolkata and will board next flight to around 3 am on Friday.
