Sri Lanka emergency: Air India waives off cancellations charges for Colombo flights

In consideration of the crisis in Sri Lanka, the national carrier Air India today waived-off penalties for a date or flight change, refund, no-show, reissuance and cancellation, if there’s any, on confirmed tickets till Friday, March 9.

Air India also assured passengers in a tweet that its flights to and from the capital city of Colombo are operating as normal.

A nationwide state of emergency was declared in Sri Lanka by President Maithripala Sirisena on Tuesday after communal violence erupted in the Theldeniya area and spread to other areas of the central hill district that left two people dead and damaged several mosques and homes.

The continued violence forced the authorities to impose an indefinite curfew in the district.
